GOAL:

Expanding an FPGA’s functional range

You develop systems for the manufacturing industry and automation. You use classic PC technology for your solutions. Image preprocessing is important for you. If you have not done so already, you want to outsource parts of your imaging solution to FPGA technology.

You use frame grabbers for effective image preprocessing and editing. The necessary frame grabber for the application should demonstrate a functional range in image preprocessing and editing beyond that of standard frame grabbers.

To realize customer-specific image processing, the onboard Vision FPGA with the VisualApplets graphic tool can be programmed. In so doing, individual real-time tasks can be accomplished simply and in very little time. The tool is well suited for hardware programmers as well as for application engineers and software programmers. The microEnable 4 VD4-PoCL frame grabber from Silicon Software, for example, is already pre-licensed for VisualApplets (Base) and SmartApplets (Base).

VisualApplets for SVDK (VA-SVDK) is an integrated development environment for FPGA applications in the Smart Vision Development Kit (SVDK). It integrates the SVDK’s interfaces into the VisualApplets graphic FPGA programming environment.
The Smart Vision Development Kit with the PicoZed System-On-Module (SOM) and Smart Vision Carrier Board helps develop imaging applications using the modular evaluation system’s comprehensive configuration. This kit contains all necessary components to launch development of an “embedded vision” application. It includes the PicoZed 7015 Zynq SOM, the Smart Vision carrier board with CoaXPress and GigE Vision interfaces, a 1.2MP Aptina camera module, a power supply, various cables and a voucher for a one-year user license for Xilinx Vivado Design Edition Software (device locked to the Zynq 7015).

The demo version of VisualApplets allows a test and/or evaluation phase in which you can try out workflows and VisualApplets’ algorithmic options.

Embedded Systems for imaging

You develop embedded systems for imaging. You want to take advantage of the possibilities of SoC architecture and you’re already familiar with Zynq’s possibilities.

You want to start fundamentally with an FPGA design on hardware and you’re interested in getting to know all the functions for programming FPGAs. You want to familiarize yourself with all the functions for programming FPGAs. You want to get to know the workflow in the full application development environment in greater detail.

SMART VISION DEVELOPMENT KIT (SVDK for Visual Applets)

Silicon Software has ported its VisualApplets graphic programming tool for the SVDK evaluation board, offering an easy introduction into Zynq FPGA programming. The packets allow you to use the evaluation board to develop your image processing on the FPGA and downstream on the ARM.

The VA-SVDK Trial Version is a slightly functionally limited version of VisualApplets. Additionally, the SVDK platform trial version contains an installer that delivers platform-dependent operators. Using these, test designs can be adapted to realistic resources and hardware parameters.

VA-SVDK Evaluation Kit

Using the VA-SVDK Evaluation Kit, test designs can be generated on the SVDK in just a few minutes and adapted to realistic resources and hardware parameters. This VisualApplets version is licensed for a limited time, but with full function enabled. You can generate designs, synthesize and run them on the SVDK for a limited period to test their runtime behavior.

VisualApplets Embedder

You’ve tried out the trial version or the Evaluation Kit and you’re sold on VisualApplets. You develop your own hardware and want to program it using VisualApplets. You use Xilinx FPGAs and want to enable access to the FPGA for yourself or your customers.

You can plan long term and integrate software programmers and application engineers into FPGA programming.

Cameras’, sensors’ and imaging devices’ FPGAs become intelligent

You develop imaging devices such as cameras or sensors and you want to make them “intelligent” using FPGA technology. You want to offer your client a comprehensive option for using imaging on his or her products.

The key for development is FPGA technology to realize your specific demands upon your imaging.
With the VisualApplets Embedder product series, Silicon Software has developed a powerful tool to make your cameras or sensors compatible with VisualApplets. This allows you and/or your client to use real-time functions for imaging tasks in minutes.

With Visual Applets Embedder, easy-to-integrate solutions for real-time imaging can be implemented in the FPGAs of cameras and sensor hardware platforms by third-party manufacturers.

Designs created within VisualApplets are easily adapted to new device platforms or can be ported onto compliant devices.

Rapid Prototyping for VisualApplets Embedder

In a test phase, applications are simulated using a prototype implementation on a hardware platform such as a camera. As a result, clients can simulate simple VisualApplets designs on the target platform.
Using this implementation, requirements for the final device series’ hardware design can be extrapolated.

VisualApplets Embedder

If the testing phase with Rapid Prototyping for embedded VisualApplets (eVA) was successful, the eVA implementation in the final product’s productive platform with all the desired applications can proceed. All interfaces (DRAM, FPGA, I/O, software etc.) are connected.
